About the director of Nartanalay - Soma Roy

Soma Roy donned ankle bells at the young age of six. She received her initial training at the children’s little theatre and later joined manipuri nartanalaya in order to specialize in manipuri dance. Under the able guidance of renowned manipuri exponents, guru bipin Singh and smt kalavati devi, her natural talent flourished and she started performing in various dance programmes and festivals throughout the country like konark festival, haridas sammelan, udayshankar festival, etc.

She had also performed in Finland, Estonia as a member of the cultural delegation organized by the Indian council for cultural relation in 1999. She had performed in Calcutta doordarshan programme as well. Her first solo performance in 1987 had been widely acclaimed by the press and public alike. She has received the “nortan visharad” diploma from manipuri nartanalay. Under the guidance of her gurus she flourished to the tune, enabling her to form the present troupe naming “Salt Lake Nartanalay” her new troupe has staged many performances {including TV programme} harmonizing with the age old tradition of the manipuri culture on lord Krishna with equal sense and shine. They claim that the flourish they have attended with the blessing of the guru and his best disciple kalavati devi. Her group is on the course to zenith of fame
